As the Special Events Coordinator for Siskin Hospital, it has been my pleasure to work closely with Carol Barnes and CBA Speakers Bureau for our annual community-wide fundraising event, the Siskin Hospital Possibilities Luncheon. We began working with Carole in 2013, when we were seeking a potential speaker for our 2014 event.
As a physical rehabilitation hospital, we were highly interested in a speaker who embodies our philosophy of celebrating life beyond disability. Carole highly recommended Colonel Greg Gadson, a double amputee and 25-year U.S. Army Commander at Ft. Belvoir. Colonel Gadson lost both legs above-the-knee due to an lED explosion in Iraq. Thanks to Carole’s recommendation and hard work, Colonel Gadson turned out to be the perfect speaker for our event.
Not only did Carole work diligently to facilitate the contract and multiple conference calls directly with the speaker prior to signing the contract, she was instrumental in handling all phases of planning for the event. We worked closely with her to schedule and confirm travel arrangements, the Colonel’s itinerary, media interviews, and other items as needed.
In addition, Carole showed tremendous initiative when she took it upon herself to reach out to Universal Studios with a request for copies of the 2012 sci-fi movie, Battleship, in which our speaker had played a starring role. Carole went above and beyond in reaching out to Universal Studios and saved our organization several thousand dollars, which in turn provided additional funds for patients without insurance in need of charity care.
We are already working with Carole again this year, and she has just secured our speaker for the 2015 Possibilities luncheon – She makes the process of finding the right speaker smooth and carefree. Her initiative, drive, determination, careful negotiation and planning skills have enabled us to secure excellent speakers.
