The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced that Archie Manning has been named the 2016 recipient of the NFF Gold Medal in recognition of his exceptional leadership and unblemished reputation.

Archie Manning (born May 19, 1949, in Drew, Mississippi) is a legendary former NFL quarterback and a beloved patriarch of football’s most iconic dynasty. A standout player at Ole Miss, he earned College Football Hall of Fame honors and multiple MVP awards before becoming the 2nd overall pick in the 1971 NFL draft. Despite playing for struggling teams for much of his career, his talent and character shone through—becoming a two-time Pro Bowler and NFC MVP in 1978.

 

Following a 14-year NFL career—primarily with the New Orleans Saints, and later stints with the Houston Oilers and Minnesota Vikings—Manning transitioned into impactful roles off the field. He’s continued to build his legacy through leadership positions such as Chairman of the National Football Foundation and as co-founder of the Manning Passing Academy, where he has mentored future generations of quarterbacks. He is also renowned for his philanthropic work, including hosting annual charity golf tournaments benefitting children’s healthcare .

 

Archie is also the proud father of Super Bowl champions Peyton and Eli Manning, and grandfather of current University of Texas quarterback Arch Manning. His enduring influence across generations—on and off the field—underscores his values of perseverance, integrity, and servant leadership.
