Full Biography

The music Jaclyn North writes and loves to perform has been described as a smooth blend of southern rock and traditional country, with a sultry kiss of blues. Chuck McKinley of KKUS in Tyler, TX put it best when he described Jaclyn’s style as a “controlled, reckless abandonment.” Whether she’s performing down on Lower Broadway or at writer’s nights in Nashville, Jaclyn is earning fans and making friends in Nashville. With a real clear vision for who she is as an artist, Jaclyn is remaining true to that girl, the girl who has had to fight for the many chances she’s been given, the girl who understands the power of standing your ground and not doubting yourself.

Born and raised in Garland, Texas, Jaclyn loved sports and was a huge fan of Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez of the Rangers. At age four, her dream was to one day be a catcher for the Rangers. As soon as she was old enough, she began playing as a catcher for a local fast pitch softball team in Mequite, TX. She desperately wanted the number seven jersey like Rodriquez wore, but the number was taken by the Coach’s daughter so the closest number she could obtain was the number eight jersey. Because of her out-going and motivational personality, the team called her ‘crazy-eight”. Little did she know that the competitiveness of sports would one day assist her in building her own successful career plan in music.

While Jaclyn got her first set of drums at age five, it was at age 14 that she truly realized her destiny. She was sitting in a movie theater waiting to watch Spiderman when she heard a voice singing that would change her life forever. Wynonna’s voice took her breath away and inspired her to develop her own singing style and pursue a career in music. As Jaclyn began to perfect her style, she began singing at the Garland Opry, where LeAnn Rimes performed in her early years. At age 16, Jaclyn appeared in the premiere production of country singer Larry Gatlin’s musical Look Homeward, Honky Tonk Angel. She moved to Nashville shortly afterwards.

Born to working class parents, Jaclyn was raised to work hard and never give up. Remaining true to the work ethic of her upbringing, Jaclyn drafted a plan to gain the attention of someone who could help her to attain her dream. She selected three cities in which to audition for American Idol thus giving her three chances to get on the show. She won her audition on the first try and was selected to perform on American Idol in the 2009-2010 Season. While she did not win the ultimate prize, she cites the experience as one that helped her to mature and taught her valuable lessons. In Nashville, she has spent the past few years writing with songwriters honing her craft and performing at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, writer nights, and charity events.

As if her songwriting and live gigs aren’t enough to keep her busy, she is now putting herself through college one course at a time. Jaclyn doesn’t mind having to work for her goal because she’s determined to get there no matter how long it takes.  Her steely determination is inspiring in this competitive world of music. While young in years, she is wise in her experience and work ethic. If determination and talent will prevail, then Jaclyn North is a name that will soon be on the lips of a lot of music fans. One of her songs pretty much sums up her attitude toward life — business — and attaining your dream — “Never Give Up”…
